Annual Inflatable Inspection
Under UK law, all inflatables used for public entertainment must be inspected annually by a "competent person" to ensure they are safe. This requirement falls under the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 (HASAWA) and the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER). The Law: Annual testing is a legal requirement enforced by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). The Standard: Inflatables should be inspected against the standard BS EN 14960-2019. This is the European and British safety standard for inflatable play equipment.The Competent Person: A competent person is an individual with the appropriate training, skills and experience to identify potential hazards. Examples include testers registered with bodies such as PIPA (Performance Inflatables Play Association) or the RPII (Register of Play Inspectors International).
